3 month campaign collects record 3,261 pints of blood for NBTS
The National Blood Transfusion Service (NTBS) has felicitated top apparel exporter Brandix for being the largest Private sector blood donor in Sri Lanka in 2013.
Employees of the Group donated a record 3,621 pints of blood during a three month collection campaign last year at 28 locations, reiterating their continuing commitment to the community.
This is the fourth successive year that Brandix has been recognised as the largest corporate donor of blood in Sri Lanka. In June last year, the Group was also presented with a special plaque by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in acknowledgement of an aggregate 10,000 pints of blood donated voluntarily by its employees.
Presenting an award of appreciation to Brandix for its donation of 2013, Dr. Anil Dissanayake, Director of the National Blood Transfusion Service said the collection campaigns organised by Brandix were particularly valuable because they are timed between October and December, traditionally a period of low collections.
The 3,621 pints of blood donated by Brandix could benefit as many as four times that number of patients, because the blood is separated into its components and a single pint could help multiple recipients, he said.
The 2013 Brandix campaign saw collections from Group factories and offices in the Western, Southern, North Central, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces. The largest contributors were Brandix Essentials, Rambukkana with 350 pints, Brandix Lingerie, Wathupitiwala with 348 and Brandix Essentials, Koggala with 300. Of the 28 locations involved, 17 contributed more than 100 pints each.
"These voluntary donations by the associates of Brandix reflect a strong civic consciousness that is inspiring," said Ishan Dantanarayana, Chief People Officer of the Brandix Group, who accepted the plaque from the NTBS. "We are confident that our associates will donate even more in 2014."
The Brandix Group employs more than 47,000 people at 42 manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka, at a 1,000-acre industrial park in India and a large operation in Bangladesh. In another health-related initiative, Brandix has been supporting the National Occupational Safety and Health Week and the causes it represents for the last seven years.
